New SkyView Release

We’ve just released an updated version of SkyView with several changes.

The Fermi data are now presented in five bands rather than two:

1. 30-100 MeV
2. 100-300 MeV
3. 300-1000 MeV
4. 1-3 GeV
5. 3-30 GeV

We’ve deleted the old COBE DIRBE survey. That’s been deprecated for a long time. The cleaner COBE DIRBE AAM and ZSMA surveys are retained.

Finally, we’ve made some small tweaks to the survey documentation. The Frequency metadata now gives a frequency consistently. Occasionally an energy or wavelength had slipped in. When we have multiple bands from a given source (e.g., the Fermi data mentioned above), the Frequency is specific to the given band rather than shared for all bands. A new Bandpass element, giving the range of frequencies used has been added. This gives us a little practice using the capitalized metric prefixes:

• M: 10⁶
• G: 10⁹
• T: 10¹²
• P: 10¹⁵
• E: 10¹⁸
• Z: 10²¹
• Y: 10²⁴

The highest Fermi frequencies are well into the YHz.

We’ve updated many of the references, trying to make sure that there’s an online reference for every survey. In many cases we’ve changed a journal reference to use the NASA’s ADS service (at the Center for Astrophysics) which should help keep the reference from going stale. There have also been a number of updates to the epoch metadata in the survey description.
